Toledo Holds Annual Awards Banquet

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo swimming and diving team held its annual postseason awards banquet this weekend. The Rocket coaching staff handed out several awards followed by a catered meal.
Head Coach Lars Jorgensen and Assistant Coach Mandy Commons handed out five individual awards at the banquet. Sophomore Leah Woodard was named MVP for her outstanding first season with the Rockets after transferring from Florida State. The San Antonio, TX native was named First Team All-MAC this season. Woodard won the 50 freestyle and finished in second place in the 100 freestyle at the MAC Championships and was part of the school-record setting 200 free relay team. Woodard was named MAC Swimmer of the Week twice during the season.
The Coaches award went to sophomore diver Megan McKinley. The Silver Lake, OH native competed in the NCAA Zone Regionals, finishind 22nd in the three-meter. McKinley also finished fourth in the one-meter at the MAC Championships.
Junior Katie Childers won the Academic Award. The Bloomington, IN native leads the team in overall GPA at 3.974 and was named to the Academic All-MAC team for the second consecutive year this season. Childers was one of three Rockets with a perfect 4.0 GPA fall quarter.
The Most Improved Award was given to sophomore Ashley Tremblay. The Phoenix, AZ native was named Second Team All-MAC this season and scored in the 100 backstroke at the MAC meet and was part of the second-place 200 medley relay team. Tremblay was also named MAC Swimmer of the Week during the season.
Rounding out the individual awards was the Captains Award, given to team co-captains junior Makenzie Manard and senior Amanda Wittenmyer. Manard was named to the Academic All-MAC team for the second consecutive year this season and sports a 3.829 career GPA along with a 4.0 GPA fall quarter. The Canton, OH native was part of the school-record setting 200 free relay team at the MAC Championships and finished second in the 100 butterfly. Wittenmyer, who has a solid 3.548 GPA, missed most of the year with an injury, but came back late in the year to compete.
