Rockets Announce 2006 Award Winners

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo football program announced its 2006 award winners at the annual team banquet on Friday, Dec. 8. Award winners were as follows:
• Jon Binder Memorial Award (team's top walk-on)
Matt Shumaker (Delphos, OH)
• Golden Hammer Award (most big hits)
Mike Alston (Columbus, OH)
• Daniel and Mary Jo Hanson Senior Scholar Athlete Award
Shaun Fitzgibbons (Cincinnati, OH)
• Findlay Family Community Service Award
Steve Odom (Columbus, OH)
• Gus Yeager Legacy Award
Brett Kern (Grand Island, NY)
• Norman Cohen Award (team's top freshman)
Barry Church (Pittsburgh, PA)
• Jim Nicholson Award (contributed most to team's success)

Cochran Makes Academic All-MAC
Sophomore quarterback Clint Cochran (Wadsworth, OH) was named Academic All-MAC in a vote by the Mid-American Conference faculty athletic representatives.
Cochran, who holds a 4.0 grade point average in bioengineering, completed 96-of-169 passes for 960 yards and six touchdowns. His best game came in a 45-43 triple-overtime loss at Iowa State when he connected on 39-of-49 passes for 367 yards and three TDs. His 39 completions rank second in school history in a single game, while his passing yards (367) and attempts (49) each rank seventh.
