Final Stats

OXFORD, OH - Toledo (6-4-0, 1-2-0 MAC) continued its longest road swing of the season on Friday afternoon and suffered a 2-1 setback against Miami (4-4-0, 2-1-0 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action at the Miami Soccer Field.

"This was a tough game," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "I thought we played pretty well overall, but struggled early on and gave up a quick goal. Aside from that goal, we performed well and created quite a few scoring chances for ourselves. Unfortunately, Miami is a good team and they were able to take advantage of their opportunities which proved to be the difference in the game."

The RedHawks took advantage of their first offensive opportunity at the 1:36 mark when Kathleen Vistica dribbled down the far sideline and centered a pass to Aimee Prevallet in front of the net. Prevallet drilled home her first goal of the season as she redirected Vistica's cross just inside the left post and past a diving Toledo junior goalkeeper Jen Whipple.

In the 31st minute, Vistica, who figured in on both Miami goals, tallied her third goal of the year off an assist from Katie Boyd. Boyd fired a cross from the far sideline that a Toledo player attempted to clear, but it was directed right to Vistica who chipped in a shot over the head of the Whipple.

The Rockets made a late offensive surge as they posted six second-half shots, including three shots on goal in the final 15 minutes of the second half, but their only score came at the 77:28 mark off a header by junior Kirsty Wilson. Classmate Sarah Hazenfield was credited with the assist.

Toledo's best chance to tie the game came in the 83rd minute when sophomore Katie Strock fired a shot on goal, but Miami defender Lindsay Dunmead thwarted their scoring chance when she redirected the shot, which was headed for the far post, out of bounds.

The Midnight Blue and Gold held the advantage in both shots (11-8) and corner kicks (4-3) in the contest, but the RedHawks' defense turned up the intensity as they held the Rockets to the single goal, the fifth time this season they have held an opponent to one goal or less.

Toledo returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 when it faces Ball State at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
