TERRRE HAUTE, IN - Toledo dropped a 74-56 decision at Indiana State on Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Hulman Center. The loss snapped the Rockets two-game win streak and dropped them to 3-2 on the season.
"We got beat by a better team tonight," Toledo Head Coach Mark Ehlen said. "Indiana State is a very-well balanced squad and all their players are on the same page. They're a fine team."
The Sycamores shot 47.5 percent (29-of-61) from the field, including 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from beyond the arc, and improved to 5-2. ISU also took care of the basketball and finished with 16 assists, compared to only nine turnovers.
UT finished the contest with a respectable 40.4 percent (23-of-57) shooting from the floor, but was hindered by 20 turnovers. The Sycamore also took full advantage of those mishaps and converted them into 24 crucial points.
Sophomore Jasmine House paced Toledo with 17 points and a career-best 12 rebounds. It was her first career double-double and the second by a Rocket in as many games. Other UT performers in double figures included senior Monique Lloyd and junior Danielle Bishop with 10 points, respectively.
ISU jumped out early hitting three of their first five shots, including a pair of triples, to establish a 10-2 lead with 16:28 left.
The home team continued to pressure the Rockets and increased their advantage to 19-4, following five-consecutive points by Lisa Verhoff with 10:46 remaining.
UT attempted to get back in the contest behind the inside strong play inside from Lloyd, who hit back-to-back baskets, and cut the deficit to 21-10 with 8:21 left. The Rockets trimmed into the deficit further, 25-14, after a triple by Bishop, but that would be the closest they would get in the opening 20 minutes, as they trailed 36-21 at the intermission.
The Rockets hurt themselves committing 12 first-half turnovers, compared to only three for the Sycamores. ISU benefited from UT's miscues and held a commanding 15-0 edge in points off turnovers.
ISU opened the second half the same way it began the first with a 10-2 run to stretch its advantage to 44-23 with 17:59 left in regulation.
Bishop kept the Rockets in the game, scoring seven-consecutive points and cut the deficit to 50-30. The closest the Rockets would get the rest of the game was 17 points. ISU kept the pressure on and cruised to the 18-point victory.
Melanie Boeglin paced five ISU players in double figures with 12 points, to go along with 11 assists. Other Sycamore players with at-least 10 points were Stephanie Lisch (11 pts., 7 rbs.), Verhoff (11 pts.), Rachel Maenpaa (10 pts., 7 rbs.) and former Rocket Kristen Weddle (10 pts.).
The Rockets return to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 to host Wright State. The contest is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. tip-off and will be the first game of a doubleheader. The Rocket men's team will face Ferris State in the second game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
