TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (12-28, 3-10 MAC) dropped the opener of its Mid-American Conference series with East Division leader Miami (26-13, 8-3 MAC) by a 9-2 margin at rainy Scott Park.
The Rockets fell behind early as the RedHawks scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Brian Canada.
Miami then added single runs in the second and the fourth to build a four-run cushion.
UT attempted to rally though and clawed back with two runs in the sixth. Senior DH Aaron Rouser accounted for the Rockets' first run with a RBI double. Later in the frame, senior LF Shawn Hurst laced a RBI single to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
Miami finished off the scoring, tallying three runs in the seventh and single runs in the eighth and ninth to make the final, 9-2.
Junior J.R. Duffey (2-6) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits in six innings of work.
Resendez (2-for-3, run scored) and Hurst (2-for-4) led the UT offense with multi-hit contests.
Graham Taylor (4-4) earned the complete-game win for the RedHawks, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts.
Canada paced Miami's 13-hit attack collecting five hits with a game-high five RBI, while teammate Geoff Orr pounded out two hits and two RBI.
