TOLEDO, OH - Toledo's Tia Davis was named first-team All-Mid-American Conference, the league announced Monday. The All-MAC teams are selected by a vote by the league's head coaches.
Davis is Toledo's 19th first-team All-MAC selection, and was one of the league's top scorers before going down with a ruptured patella tendon in her left knee against Western Michigan on Feb. 5. Prior to her injury, she ranked in the top-five in the MAC in scoring (18.1) and rebounding (7.1).
Davis is joined on the first-team by high school teammate Miami's Heather Cusick. The Kokomo, IN, native led the Rockets in scoring in 16 of the 20 games she played in as well as pacing the squad eight times in rebounding. Earlier this season, she became the 17th Rocket in school history to score 1,000 career points against the RedHawks.
"I'm really happy for Tia," Toledo Head Coach Mark Ehlen said. "I think the coaches realized what she means to our team, despite missing half the conference season with an injury. She led us in so many important categories. I think the point that stands out the most about Tia was that it wasn't as if she exploded on the scene as a senior. Every year she has gotten a little better. This year she was having a tremendous year, but the injury cut it short."
Despite losing Davis to the season-ending injury, the Rockets claimed a share of their sixth MAC regular-season championship and their fourth West Division title with a 19-8 overall record, 12-4 in the MAC. UT also is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2003 MAC Women's Basketball Tournament and will play No. 9 seed Marshall on Wednesday, Mar. 12 at 1:00 p.m. in Cleveland's Gund Arena. 2003 All-MAC Women's Basketball Teams
