Toledo, OH - Sophomore quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (Pittsburgh, PA) was named Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference today for his performance in Toledo's 56-29 win vs. Buffalo on Nov. 1.
Gradkowski, who has a 3.01 grade point average in business, set school and Glass Bowl records with six touchdown passes, one shy of the MAC mark held by Jose Davis of Kent State. Gradkowski also completed a school-best 92 percent (23-of-25) of his passes, also the second-best mark in MAC history.
Gradkowski had 435 yards passing vs. Buffalo, second in UT history only to his own record of 461 yards set vs. Pittsburgh on Sept. 20 of this year.
For the season, Gradkowski is 218-of-306 (71.2%) for 2,500 yards. He leads the MAC with 22 touchdown passes and has thrown just four interceptions. He ranks first in the MAC and eighth in the country with a 161.00 QB efficiency rating.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
