TOLEDO, OH - Freshman point guard Terry Reynolds was named the Mid-American Conference's Freshman of the Year and was selected to the MAC's All-Freshman Team, the league office announced today. The Freshman of the Year award was voted on by the MAC News Media Association and the All-Freshman team was selected by the league's head coaches.
A native of Nashville, TN, Reynolds is just the third Rocket ever to be named MAC Freshman of the Year. Tim Reiser (1981) and Ken Epperson (1982) were previous recipients of the award.
Reynolds has scored the second most points by a freshman in UT history (357) and trails Epperson by 63 points. Epperson scored 420 points in the 1981-82 campaign.
Reynolds leads the Rockets in assists (4.8 apg), steals (1.7 spg) and is second in points (12.8) and third in rebounds (4.1). He ranks third in the MAC in assists and is fourth in steals, and his assist average is the highest by a Rocket since Keith Wade registered 6.0 assists per game in the 1990-91 campaign.
The No. 4 seed Rockets (21-9) will face No. 5 seed Ohio (18-10) on Thursday, Mar. 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the MAC Quarterfinals at Cleveland's Gund Arena. The winner of that contest will play either No. 1 seed Central Michigan (20-7) or No. 8 seed Miami (15-15) on Friday, Mar. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the MAC semifinals. The MAC Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
