TOLEDO, OH - Toledo's Corrie Hasenjager scored two goals, including the game-winner with under three minutes remaining in the match, to lead the Toledo Rockets to a 2-1 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd in Mid-American Conference women's soccer action Tuesday at Sam Hood Field. With the victory, the Rockets improve to 2-4 overall (1-2 MAC), while the Thundering Herd fall to 4-3 overall (0-2 MAC).
"This was a gutsy performance by our team today," said Toledo head coach Rj. Anderson. "Whenver you go on the road and pick up a win agianst a good team like Marshall, you have to be happy. We had some players really step it up today and that was huge."
Hasenjager scored the game's opening goal at the 41:28 mark by taking an assist from freshman Anna Rask and sending it into the left side of the goal, past Marshall goalkeeper Kayla Johnson.
The score remained 1-0, until Marshall freshman Amanda McMahon sent a shot past Toledo's Elise Donovan, off of an Erin Locy assist, to tie the game at the 64:54 mark.
The goal was McMahon's seventh of the year, which ties the school-record for goals in one season that was set by Lindsey Jayjack last year. McMahon's seven goals also lead the conference.
The match remained knotted at 1-1, until Hasenjager netted the game-winner at the 87:15 mark. The sophomore from Dayton, OH, now leads the Rockets with five goals on the season. Freshman Melissa Lesage assisted the winning goal.
Toledo's junior goalkeeper Elise Donovan went the distance in goal, recording six saves en route to collecting her first MAC victory. Marshall's Kayla Johnson recorded 2 saves in the contest.
Marshall actually dominated in shots. The Thundering Herd recorded 16 shots to Toledo's four. Corner kicks also favored the Herd, 7-2.
Toledo will go for its second conference win of the season, when it hosts Bowling Green, Friday, Sept. 22. Kickoff at Scott Park Field is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
