Men's Basketball Downs Samford In Double OT

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Terry Reynolds scored 24 points to lead Toledo to a 80-74 double overtime victory against Samford in the consolation game of the Trend Homes Classic on Wednesday night.
Toledo (7-2) dominated the first half but then went cold from the field in the second half, allowing Samford (3-6) to get back in the game. Greg Stempin added 19 for Toledo and Robierre Cullars finished with 14.
Marc Salyers had a game-high 28 for Samford, including a long three at the buzzer to force the second overtime. Derrick Jones finished with 17 for the Bulldogs before fouling out in the first overtime.
Stempin hit his first four shot attempts to help Toledo take a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Samford cut the margin to six at 27-21, but Toledo recovered and the Rockets took a 39-24 lead into halftime.
Samford then outscored Toledo 23-8 over the first 13 minutes of the second half, tying the game at 47-47. Salyers made a basket and four free throws to help Samford take its first lead of the night at 55-53.
Jones hit a three and made a layup, tying the game with six seconds left on the clock.
Toledo took a 66-62 lead in the first overtime but a three by Tyson Dorsey cut the margin to one. Reynolds hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining but Salyers buried a long three right at the buzzer to force the second overtime.
Reynolds hit a three to give Toledo a 71-68 lead in the second overtime but Dorsey countered with a three for Samford. Two baskets, including a three, by Nick Moore gave Toledo a 5-point cushion. Stempin added a free throw and Craig Rodgers scored to put Toledo up by eight with 1:30 left. Salyers hit one more three but Samford then went scoreless over the final minute.
