Men's Basketball Loses To Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Tito Maddox scored 19 points and handed off 13 assists in collegiate debut, leading Fresno State to a 88-72 victory against Toledo in the Trend Homes Classic on Tuesday night.
Melvin Ely had a game-high 20 for Fresno State (7-2) and Demetrius Porter added 18 points.
Greg Stempin led Toledo (6-2) with 18 points.
Toledo trailed by nine with 13 minutes left in the half, but hit a trio of three-pointers in a 15-4 run to lead 23-21 with just less than eight minutes left in the half.
Fresno outscored Toledo 12-5 over the final four minutes of the half to take a 39-34 lead.
Toledo opened the second half with seven-straight points to take a two-point lead before baskets by Maddox and Ely gave Fresno a 43-41 lead with 17 minutes left in the game.
Fresno took control with a 13-3 run, sparked by three pointers from Chris Jefferies, Porter and Maddox. Toledo never got closer than eight the rest of the way.
Maddox missed the first eight games of the season due to an NCAA penalty for contact with an agent after missing all of last season as an academic non-qualifier.
Fresno State will play Louisiana-Lafayette, a 76-66 winner against Samford in the opening game, for the tournament title on Wednesday night.
