Men Swimmers Split First Meet at Home (Nov. 6)

Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo men's swimming team hosted MAC rivals Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan at the UT Student Recreation Center Pool on Saturday, November 6. The Rockets defeated the Falcons 183-54, but fell to the Eagles 136.5-106.5.
Toledo's Paul Southey (Gauseng, S. Africa - Pretoria) won the 50 and 100 free with a times of 20.98 and 45.94, respectively. Southey was also a member of the Rocket 200 Medley Relay team that finished first in 1:33.28. The other members were Zach Henning (Sandusky, OH - Perkins), Ben Wainright (Hudsonville, MI - Hudsonville) and Derek Craven (Pretoria, S. Africa - Pretoria).
Junior Craig Dukes (Bedfordview, S. Africa - Bedfordview) won the 200 free with a time of 1:43.72. Dukes also placed third in the 100 free with a time of 47.22
On the three-meter board sophomore Bryan Franzen (Phoenix, AZ - Sunnyslope) defeated his opponents by 50-points. Franzen finished first with a score of 241.85.
Another Rocket medalist was Pierre Van Zyl (Bloenfontein, S. Africa - Sentraal) who finished in a time of 2:08.17 to win the 200 breaststroke.
The men's next meet is November 12 at home against the University of Illinois at Chicago. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
