J.R. Werk was named the assistant equipment manager at the University of Toledo in January 2023. Werk works with baseball, women's soccer and softball. He manages all equipment operations, maintain and repair uniforms and gear to meet safety standards, oversees purchasing and inventory, submits and tracks expense reports, and develops annual equipment budgets. He also serves as the primary game-day contact for visiting teams and coordinate their needs.
Prior to joining Toledo, Werk gained extensive operations experience at several universities. In 2022 he worked at Florida International University as the sport operations coordinator for baseball, volleyball, and soccer. From 2020-22, Werk served as operations coordinator for Oakland University women’s soccer. He previously held multiple roles for Western Michigan women’s soccer program, including operations coordinator in 2020 and student manager in 2019. From 2017-19, Werk assisted in game management and game-day operations for various sports within the Western Michigan Athletic Department.
Werk is a Western Michigan University graduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in sport & event management in 2020. He is a native of Waterford, Mich., and graduated from Waterford Kettering High School.
