DeAndre Haynes enters his second season as an assistant coach for Toledo. A former Mid-American Conference Player of the Year at Kent State, Haynes spent four seasons (2012-16) as an assistant coach for the Golden Flashes prior to joining the Rockets’ coaching staff.
   Last season, Haynes helped Toledo make its third postseason appearance in the last six years with a trip to the College Basketball Invitational. Other highlights during Haynes’ debut season was senior forward Steve Taylor Jr. earning second-team All-MAC honors after leading the nation with 9.9 defensive rebounds per game and ranking third nationally with 12.2 rpg. Senior guard Jonathan Williams also received third-team All-MAC accolades for a second-straight season after ranking third in the MAC with 19.6 ppg.
   Haynes began his time as an assistant coach at Kent State in the 2012-13 campaign after playing professionally for six years in Belgium, Hungary, Germany and Europe. In his final season, he averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game for Namika Lappeenranta in Finland. During his time as an assistant coach, Haynes helped the Golden Flashes to the 2014-15 MAC regular-season title as well as a pair of CollegeInsider.com Tournament appearances.
   Haynes is KSU’s all-time leader in assists (625) and steals (229) and became the first Golden Flash to earn the MAC’s top player honor in 2006. An Honorable Mention All-American that year as well, he led Kent State to the MAC regular season and tournament titles and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
   The 6-foot-2 native of Detroit, MI was a four-year starter at point guard, totaling 89 wins and four postseason appearances during his time at KSU. Haynes currently ranks 12th in school history with 1,259 career points, while his 114 career starts are second all-time.
