Toledo Post-Game Quotes

Jason Candle
(summary of the game)
"I'm really proud of our football team, to open up conference play against a very good team, a team that makes you earn everything that they give up. They (Miami) are good defensively, have good quarterback play and really sound at the kicking game, as well. We had a blocked punt today, got outstanding play from our kicker and we got a recovered onside kick, so I'm really pleased with our special teams. Our defense did a really good job in key moments and kept getting key stops during the game. Offensively, we were able to build a little bit of lead early using efficient plays. I'm proud of our guys for playing all 60 minutes and hanging in there, keeping all 10 toes down for the entire game all to beat a good team."

(on the tone the team set)
“Momentum in football is huge. To get the field position we were able to get early on in the game, and to capitalize on those drives was massive. There were a couple great individual plays by our guys to get scores there.”

(on Darius Alexander’s performance)
“He was very impactful. At times, he was disruptive and dominant and the stats show that. There are plenty of other plays there where havoc was created by him and others on the defensive front. Frank (Okam) has done a great job with that group. Probably eight or nine linemen played significant reps and did a really good job.”

Darius Alexander
“Today’s performance started in practice for me. I worked really hard all week and played fast and physical today. I also give credit to Coach Candle, Coach Frank Okam and all of my defensive line teammates. We compete with each other and my coaches always strive for me to get better. The defensive backs held their own just like they’ve done since week one, and I can appreciate how they helped us just like we help them on the field.”

Tucker Gleason
“This offense is really good and we haven’t seen our full potential yet. For Jerjuan, he’s an amazing human being, and when you’re an amazing human being the game rewards you. He’s the first one in the building and the last one out, and he’s got skills. You throw the ball in his area, he’s going to catch it.”

Jerjuan Newton
"I do my best to make plays, but whether the ball is in my hands or out of my hands, I want to do what I can to help my team win the game. I feel like each game, we’re getting better and Tucker’s connections with his receivers continue to build stronger. He trusts his receivers and throws the ball up for us to make plays.”
