“Hats off to Miami and Coach Martin for getting a win today. They are a tough football team, a very physical group, and sound in all three phases of the game. “My heart breaks for our team today, for a senior class that is a mixture of fourth-year seniors, fifth- and sixth-year guys, and guys that have laid it on the line for this football program. We had a great football season and it’s a sour taste right now in the mouth at this point. But moments in life sometimes happen that cannot define you and it certainly does not define these young guys as people. It doesn’t define our entire season. We worked very hard to get to this point in time. We wanted to win the football game but didn’t play well enough at times today to get that done. Like I said, hats off to Miami.”
On the difference special teams made in the outcome
"Miami did a good job. That team has blocked two field goals to win games or secure wins this season and got their hands on it today, and we didn’t handle a couple of punts the right way. I certainly thought that impacted the game and that is a very good special teams unit that we played today. And they’re going to put pressure on you. And they’ve been good at kicking it for a long time, so it was a stiff test for our guys. We’ve been very good there all season long as well. We’ll take a look at the tape and correct it, and continue to try and get better from there.”
On Miami's defensive line
"They were very disruptive with twists and movement and getting on the edges of the guys. There was a time in the third quarter when we didn’t have Anthony Torres, he was out the entire time, and it hurt our ability to set edges, so we were playing a more open style of play. They were able to negate the quarterback run. When Dequan got out there a couple of times, their guys got him on the ground. Not a lot of people got him on the ground this entire season, so it was a cat-and-mouse game there a little bit and it didn’t go our way."
