Senior Quarterback Eli Peters
On Wednesday’s win
“Our team stepped up in all facets of the game tonight. Hats off especially to our defense. It was a good team effort, but there are obviously still things to improve upon. It’ll feel good to enter week two at 1-0.”
On earning the nod to start at quarterback
“My main goal was to win the game and to put my teammates in the best position to win. We made some good plays today and I really think this is something we can build on.”
Senior Cornerback Sam Womack
On the way the defense played against Bowling Green
“When you only give up three points that’s a great feeling. When we go out there we’re trying to force turnovers and give our offense the ball as much as possible. When everybody comes in ready to work and do their job, this is the result we get.”
Senior Running Back Shakif Seymour
On beating arch-rival Bowling Green
“Whether it’s a rivalry game or not, a win always feels good. But when we’re playing the Team Down South it’s obviously a little sweeter. We’ve been waiting for this game since last year. It wasn’t a perfect game for us, but we fought through and came out on top.”
Head Coach Jason Candle
On Wednesday’s win
“It was awesome night in the Glass Bowl for our team. We obviously had a unique set of challenges this offseason and starting the season out with a rivalry game and I’m really proud of our team for overcoming all that adversity. There were mistakes in all three phases, but there were a lot of good things there too.”
On Eli Peters
“Statistically, tonight’s game reflected the way that camp went for him. He had a high completion percentage; he had a few balls that were a little off the mark, but he’s a guy that’s going to make the best decisions and put us in the best position. Things didn’t always go out way tonight and I thought he hung in there and played really well.”
On the defense
“I thought our defense came out and played with a lot of focus and energy. I want to give our defensive coaches a lot of credit for getting our guys ready to play at a high level. Those early turnovers gave us some early confidence to build off as well. It was just a really good defensive effort.”
On senior Bryce Harris
“I don’t need to watch the tape to know he played a pretty good game. It’s a major plus to have a guy in there who can pick up pressures and blitzes and confidently communicate those to his line. He’s a cerebral guy who goes out there and plays really hard.”
