Toledo head coach Jason Candle opening statement
“You have to fight back when things get hard. We didn’t play our best and we weren’t as crisp or clean as we want to be. It was a tremendous night in the Glass Bowl. To honor the great players and great coaches that came before us with a win was the result we talked about all week. Very humble to be part of a rich tradition that is Toledo football.”
Candle on mindset during game-winning drive
“Tulsa didn’t use their timeouts and we could kill the clock and maintain our timeouts but it’s still about getting first downs. The penalty was a big deal to keep the drive going. We felt like we could get the ball centered and get it within (Jameson Vest’s) range he would knock it home.”
Candle on high-scoring contest
“You have to take what is really good and highlight it and take what is really bad and correct it. There was a lot of bad that we can get fixed. There was a lot of good that we can talk and brag about.”
Senior Quarterback Logan Woodside on being a part of 54-51 victory over Tulsa:
“It was awesome and one of the most fun games I have ever played in. To come out and get a win was big for this football team and program. That was a really good football team we beat tonight.”
Woodside on throwing six touchdown passes:
“We took a lot of shots as an offense. Our receivers got open and I just tried to put the ball out there for them to make plays. All the receivers played their tails off tonight and all the credit goes to them.”
Jameson Vest on kicking the game-winning field goal:
“I was in the same situation two years ago, so I just embraced the opportunity and just told myself that we are going to win this game.”
“It means a lot to kick the game winning field goal and know that the coaches and the players have that trust in me to make the game-winner.”
Vest on knowing if the ball was going to make it after he kicked it:
“Immediately. Once it hit my foot I knew that it was going in.”
Vest on mindset before making the game-winner:
“Once Tulsa scored to tie the game, I got into the mindset that I was going to have to help the team win the game.”
Josh Teachey on Two-Point Return after the blocked extra point:
“The ball was kicked and I saw that it was tipped and it was just a team effort after that. I just followed my blocks down the field and couldn’t do what I did without those blocks.”
Teachey on how meaningful a win it is over Tulsa:
“It is a big win for us. Tulsa is a great team and tonight we got a great team win. Tonight we showed a lot of toughness as a team and I hope we can keep pushing forward.”
“This win proves that we have heart. We you hit adversity, you really see the true colors of your team.”
Cody Thompson on momentum of scoring touchdown before halftime:
“It was huge and a big momentum swing. I think our team really fed off that heading into the second half.”
“There was no heads down and pointing fingers after trailing at halftime but everybody just bought in and played as one.”
Thompson on total team effort victory:
“We have guys all over the field that can make plays and a lot of them stepped up when they needed to tonight. It was a great team win.”
Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery opening statement
“It was a hard-fought game. I thought both teams had opportunities. It was one of those games that comes down to the final seconds. I have a lot of respect for coach Candle and his squad.”
Montgomery on the high-scoring contest
“I think both offenses ran the football well. Toledo had a few more explosive plays than we did. Two good offenses going at each other with balanced attacks and that makes it difficult to defend.”
Montgomery on having three 100+ yard rushers
“Our team is always running back by committee. All those guys ran the football well. I thought our offensive line came off the football and played well.”
