  • Thursday’s game marked the first-ever meeting between Toledo and Elon and the victory improved UT’s record to 23-2 in games against FCS schools.
  • The Rockets have now won four consecutive season openers dating back to 2014. The last time UT lost a season-opening game was 2013, a 24-6 loss at No. 10 Florida. They have also now won seven straight home openers.
  • Senior QB Logan Woodside finished the night with 314 yards passing, moving him into fourth place all-time in Toledo history with 6,946 career passing yards. He passed Aaron Opelt (2010-13) and Ryan Huzjak (1993-96).
  • Sophomore WR Diontae Johnson returned the second half-opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown, the first Rocket to return a kick for a touchdown since Bernard Reedy against Utah State on Dec. 15, 2012 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. He tied Eric Page for the second-longest kick return in program history.
  • Senior WR Cody Thompson finished with 112 receiving yards, vaulting him up to seventh in program history in career receiving yards. The performance was the 11th 100-yard game of his career. He passed Mel Long (1997-2000), Don Fair (1969-71), and Corey Jones (2013-16).
  • Sophomore WR Diontae Johnson’s 69-yard reception in the first quarter was a career-best; his previous career long was 36 yards in 2015 against Central Michigan
  • Sophomore DB Kahlil Robinson’s second-quarter interception was the first of his career.
  • In the first half, Toledo held Elon to zero passing yards; the Phoenix did not complete any of the five passes they attempted. The Rockets did not surrender a pass completion until the third quarter.
  • Senior RB Terry Swanson tied a career high with two rushing touchdowns, the fourth time he has accomplished that feat.
  • On his first career carry, sophomore TE Reggie Gilliam scored his first career touchdown. The play came with 2:05 left in the third quarter.
  • Johnson and Thompson each had over 100 yards receiving, the first time since Sept. 30, 2016 Toledo had a pair of 100-yard receivers.
  • In his first career game, redshirt freshman RB Shakif Seymour had 102 yards and a touchdown; Seymour redshirted in 2016.
  • Last season Toledo set a team record, averaging 517.8 yards of total offense per game. The Rockets picked up where they left off, putting up 556 yards of total offense against Elon.
  • Toledo scored its most points in a season-opener since 2014 (54, New Hampshire).
