Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach Jason Candle
(opening statement)
“It was obviously a hard-fought game and hats off to Eastern Michigan. I expected it to be a defensive battle and they have probably the top defense in the MAC. I was proud of how we finished it off despite being shorthanded due to some injuries.”

(on Cody Thompson’s injury in the first quarter)
“It looks like he has a broken leg and he’s going to get a cast on it tomorrow. I don’t think we’ll get him back and that’s a big loss for us. We’re pretty beat up now and we’re going to have to have some young guys grow up pretty fast. We aren’t going  to make excuses because that’s part of football. Cody’s a warrior and he means a lot to this program. He’s a guy who’s done everything right and it hurts to see him get injured.”

(on Kahlil Robinson’s two interceptions)
“He took advantage of his opportunity today and that’s what you have to do when your number is called.”

Sophomore RB Art Thompkins
(on going against Eastern Michigan defense)
“It was tough. They have a really good defense but our coaches gave us a great gameplan this week and we went out there and executed it.”

(on playing in a tough close football game)
“This is football. Every game isn’t going to be a blowout, you are going to have to be in some dogfights. We just keep the mindset with our team that we just have to fight harder and we will come out with the victory.”

(on getting the first MAC victory)
“Every win is big and especially in conference play. We fought hard and came out with a victory and wins like this bring our team closer together.”

Senior QB Logan Woodside
 (on the Eastern Michigan Defense)
“In this conference you know that you have to fight every game. Give all the credit in the world to Eastern Michigan. They have a really good defense. They do a lot of things really well and we had to fight for every yard today.”

Junior DE Olasunkanmi Adeniyi
(on the defensive effort vs. Eastern Michigan)
“We pride ourselves on playing defense here and today we had to step up and make some big plays.”

(on the two interceptions by Kahlil Robinson)
“They were big time. The young guy stepped up and made some big plays today and hopefully we can get that from him the rest of the season.”

(on the defense building off the 20-15 win heading into more conference games)
“At the end of the day we have to play defense like today, every game, that’s our expectations.”

Sophomore DB Kahlil Robinson
(on recording two interceptions today)
“Both interceptions were just perfect play calls. Our defensive line made great plays to pressure the quarterback. I was just in a good position to make the right play at the right time.”

(on performance of the defense)
“It was a big performance for the defense. This was the first step we had to take in order to be where we want to be at the end of the year.”
“We know that Eastern Michigan is a good football team and we just came out today and played hard.”

Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton
(on end of game scenario)
“We’ve played five games now and it’s gone down to the last play in four out of the five. It’s my job to make sure that we’re making the plays in the end to win. We did that at Rutgers, but we haven’t done it the last three games.”

(on getting over the hump late in the game)
“We’ve gotten over a lot of humps. There isn’t a hump we haven’t gotten over and there isn’t a hump that we can’t get over.”

(on his defense)
“Phenomenal. Our defense is playing great. We lost the turnover/takewaway ratio. That’s one area we work really hard on, but our defense played incredibly well.”

Eastern Michigan defensive back Vince Calhoun
(on defensive effort against Toledo)
“Our coaches had a good plan. We knew what they were going to run and we were waiting on it. We played tough and everybody did their job.”

Eastern Michigan quarterback Brogan Roback
(on final possession)
“We want to give ourselves a chance. Offensively we just need to be better. It took too long for us to get into things we wanted to do. We had chances early on but we need to finish as a group.”

(on playing in his hometown of Toledo)
“I had a lot of friends and family here. My high school head coach was on the sidelines. I love coming back to Toledo. This is where I grew up and still has a special place in my heart.”
