Post-Game Quotes
(Toledo vs. Akron – October 21, 2017)
Head Coach Jason Candle
“Today we took another step in the right direction. Statistically, I think there were a lot of things you could point to for this game. There was a lot of outstanding plays by individual players, but I’m not really concerned about that. I’m more concerned about what the scoreboard is at the end of the day and what the Rockets look like as a team. We’re getting close to playing complete football, which our coaches have been challenging our team to do.”
“It was another good day in the Glass Bowl. Our home crowd continues to support us, and I appreciate that from them and our student body. This can be a special place and a real home field advantage if we continue to do that and have crowds like today.”
“I thought we hit a little bit of a lull in the second quarter, and our guys were challenged by the coaching staff to come out and play a good third quarter and finish the game the right way. I thought we did that.”
“We played a lot of different guys on defense today. We had most of the backups in for most of the second half. I looked out there one time, and there were three true freshmen out there on defense. Those game reps can only help moving forward, when you’re trying to develop a program here. We played today without our starting left guard, our starting center, and our starting right guard on offense. These injuries happen and they will continue to happen, so we need to have guys that are ready to go. They got a little bit of a taste of that today, and I thought for the most part they did very well. We just have to continue to correct our mistakes.”
“Logan (Woodside) has to take what the defense gives him. There’s going to be days where he throws five touchdowns and days where he doesn’t throw any. He just needs to keep playing within the offense and doing what he needs to do. He’s a very selfless person, a tremendous competitor. He’s what you want to see in your quarterback, and he showed it again today.”
Senior quarterback Logan Woodside
“I think we did a great job. The receivers got open for us. The offensive line did a great job for us, and I think we ran the ball effectively to set up some of the passing game.”
“I’m going to throw it to whoever is open. All the credit to those guys, whether its running backs, tight ends or receivers. They did a great job and I’m going to continue to push them because we are going to need all of them for this stretch.”
Junior defensive end Ola Adeniyi
“We’ve been working on my pass rush at practice. We just need to get to the quarterback to affect his passing. We had a great week of practice; everyone was ready to go. We knew they just had a big win against Western Michigan, so we knew we had to set the tone as the defense. I would say the defense is clicking right now, but we have to keep working hard and stay focused.”
Akron head coach Terry Bowden
“You have to give credit to Toledo. They came out ready to play and they took it to us. We’ve had good starts in mostly every game this year, but they got after us pretty good. We’ve got to put this one behind us and get ready for the next game.”
(on Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside)
“He’s the number one passer in our conference. He makes great throws. He does a great job of hitting open receivers. He’s a great college quarterback and with him they are a real good offensive football team.”
(on his team’s defensive performance)
“We were third in the conference in scoring defense going into this game and we have been able to bend and not break. They ran it down our throats and we got stuffed in the running game and that’s where it all started.”
