Head Coach Jason Candle
(Candle’s Opening Statement)
“I’m really proud of our effort as a football team tonight. I’m happy for the 23 seniors that got to play their last game at home and go out with a win. They’re guys that have meant a lot to our program and this city. I know their journey is not done. I know they feel like there is a lot left to be accomplished.”
(On Getting Off to a Good Start)
“I’ve been praying for that for the last five weeks. I think it certainly helped to go down and get a couple of scores early. I think that really gave us some breathing room in the game for sure.
(On 63-Yard Punt Return Touchdown by Corey Jones)
“It was huge. On special teams we need 11 guys to be a cohesive unit. It’s nice to 10 guys get their blocks and let Corey do what he does best when he gets the ball in his hands. It was a great individual effort by Corey and a huge momentum swing.”
(On the Senior Class)
“We still have a few weeks with this senior class. I’ll remember their spirit of competition, how they practiced every day and what it means to go to work. These are guys that have great fundamentals and know what it takes to be a great person and a great man in the future. They’ll be great future husbands and great future fathers because they were surrounded by great people and bought into something bigger than themselves. I think that’s what college athletics is really about.”
Junior QB Logan Woodside
(Comments on Getting the Win for Senior Class)
"This win was big for them. I came in with a lot of those guys. To get a win for them is something we couldn't get for our seniors last year. That was something Coach Candle emphasized to us this week."
(Comments on the Fog)
"It was good to have a balanced offensive attack.Conditions were not what we expected, but we fought through it."
(Comments on the Team Getting Out to a Fast Start)
"We have been outscored in the first quarter the past couple of games, so we really wanted to get a touchdown on our first drive. We were fortunate to do that. Then Corey Jones had the punt return for another score was huge."
Senior RB Kareem Hunt
(Comments on Him Being Receiving Threat Out of the Backfield)
"I have always thought of myself as a threat in the passing game. Unfortunately, I didn't do it that well the past couple of years. Now the coaches are trying to get me in the open field a lot more, so I'm pretty excited about that."
(Comments on Going Out a Winner on Senior Night)
"I didn't want to lose my last game in the Glass Bowl. It was a great feeling to get the win for the senior class."
(Comments on 71-Yard TD Reception)
"Cody Thompson and Corey Jones did a great job blocking on the perimeter."
Ball State Head Coach Mike Neu
“I’m disappointed. We knew we were playing a good football team and I thought we got off to a slow start in the first half. Our guys fought back and I thought if we could get a stop defensively, we could go down the field and put a score on the board to change the momentum. Give Toledo credit for coming out to start the second half and gaining the momentum and never really losing it. It was a unique night with the fog but in this game you always have to expect the unexpected. Our guys fought hard but the credit really goes to Toledo because there was a lot at stake for them with their final game of the year vs. WMU next week.”
(on Corey Jones punt return for a touchdown)
“Giving up a punt return for a touchdown hurts whenever that happens. We knew we were facing a dangerous return many. Anytime you give up a big play on a klck that’s tough.”
(on Logan Woodside and Toledo’s offense)
“They’re a very impressive football team. They’re very balanced and throw it very well and are at the top of the conference at QB. In my opinion, he is the best quarterback we faced this year. He’s consistent every single week. Give him credit for preparing and practicing for the game. He’s playing at a high level."
