Dr. Roland Gandy enters his 27th year as a football team physician. His association with The University of Toledo and its athletic programs has been one devoted service. While serving UT, Dr. Grandy has attended hundreds of practices and treated dozens of athletes. From 1966 to 1991, he missed only three of 287 UT's football games. Gandy received a bachelor of arts from Lincoln (Pa.) University in 2947 and an M.D from Temple in 1951, before serving residency at Philadelphia General Hospital. He is board certified in general surgery and is the current chief of staff at Mercy and chief of staff at Maumee Valley Hospital. He is governor of the American College of Surgery, an Ohio delegate to the AMA, and member of the AMA's Minority Committee. Gandy is also the past president of the state medical board and the Lucas County Academy of Medicine, and has served as a clinical professor of surgery at MCO since the college's inception. A tireless worker accustomed to 16-18 hour day, Dr. Gandy has also served the UT basketball team for many seasons, and has been the Scott High School team physician for 31 years.Â
