Post-Game Quotes vs. Eastern Michigan

Post-Game Quotes
Toledo vs. Eastern Michigan – Oct. 17, 2015

Head Coach Matt Campbell
(on Jaylen Coleman leaving the game in the first quarter due to injury)
“When you lose a guy like that early in the game there’s adversity and our players buckled in. It’s unfortunate and a big loss because he was playing so well for us. Juwan Woodley moved from MIKE to WILL and played outstanding in place of Jaylen. We have some good players behind him as well.”

(on scoring 28 points in each of the second and third quarters)
“Phillip threw the ball really well and got into a great rhythm in the second and third quarter. We also really settled in defensively during that time. We were able to make some big plays and execute.  What excited me was to see how we threw and caught the football so efficiently.”

“We did a great job of showing out maturity and playing hard throughout the game. We didn’t starting out well but I thought it was good to see how we handled the highs and lows of a game. We stayed steady throughout and that’s what we keep working on.

Senior quarterback Phillip Ely

“The timing with the wide receivers and running backs was great. Everything was clicking. That’s a credit to the work we’ve done in practice the past couple of weeks.”

(on the success of using play-action passes)
“We had it in the game plan. Our running backs were doing a great job of getting vertical penetration. Our wideouts got out in space and that’s a credit to our entire offense.”

“We hadn’t played a great game offensively this year. It was a lot of fun.  We’ve been winning games but we haven’t played the way we wanted to offensively.”

Sophomore WR Cody Thompson

“We’ve started to jell a little bit on offense. We knew that we hadn’t played to our potential. Our veterans are great teachers.”

Eastern Michigan Head Coach Chris Creighton

General Comments
“I thought we came out playing really, really hard. We weren’t able to convert in the red zone and kicked field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. We had two great drives, but ended up with six points. They drove and scored and went up 7-6 just like that. I don’t think he’s [Phillip Ely] been sacked all year, and we didn’t get to him today. They were able to make big plays throwing the ball.”

Comments on His Team’s Run Game
“We have two good running backs and you can’t have two talented running backs without an offensive line that’s playing together and playing hard.”

Comments on where would you rank Toledo
“They’re up there as the best team we’ve faced all year. That’s not just from seeing them today, but all week long we thought they were extremely well-coached and they’ve got good players. They’re really good.”
