11th-annual Victory Day provides special needs youngsters opportunity to become a "Rocket for a Day"
TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo football program will share the joy of sports when it hosts its 11th annual Victory Day for special needs youngsters from the Toledo area at the Fetterman Training Center on Sunday, Aug. 16.
Check-in begins at 2 p.m., with the program starting at 2:30 p.m.
Victory Day gives special needs youngsters a chance to have their moment to shine on the football field. Each participant will be paired with a Toledo football player who will serve as a mentor for the day. Victory Day athletes will participate in several simulated game-day activities alongside Rocket football players. Participants will wear Rocket jerseys, and Toledo cheerleaders will be on hand to show their support.
Victory Day was founded in 2010 by Aaron Segedi, a teacher and football coach from Trenton, Mich. Segedi, a cancer survivor, was inspired to create the event after his life was saved by a liver donation from his sister, Rhonda. Since then, the Victory Day program has been adopted by high schools and universities in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
