First meeting of 2026-27 will take place Aug. 31 at Savage Arena
TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo Athletics Department and the Downtown Coaches Association invite Rocket fans, alumni and community members to join one of the University's longest-standing traditions as the DCA begins its 2026-27 luncheon season on Monday, Aug. 31.
Â
Founded in 1937 by former UT athletics director and football coach Doc Spears, the Downtown Coaches Association has raised more than $1.5 million in support of Toledo Athletics and served as a vital connection between the athletics department and the community for nearly 90 years. Established to strengthen relationships with local business and civic leaders and to build support for Rocket Athletics, the DCA remains one of the University's most enduring athletic support organizations.
Â
The 2026-27 luncheon schedule begins Aug. 31 at 11:30 a.m. in the Grogan Room of Savage Arena. The second meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, due to the Labor Day holiday, with weekly Monday luncheons resuming thereafter. The final meeting of the season is scheduled for Monday, March 8, 2027.
Â
The weekly luncheons offer members a unique, behind-the-scenes look at Toledo Athletics. Attendees hear directly from Rocket head coaches, student-athletes and athletics administrators as they review recent competitions, preview upcoming opponents, discuss the current state of their programs and answer questions from members. The exclusive access provides an insider's perspective that cannot be found anywhere else.
Â
"For generations, the Downtown Coaches Association has played an important role in connecting our fans and community with Rocket Athletics," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Moreland. "The relationships built through the DCA and the generosity of its members have made a lasting impact on our student-athletes and athletic programs."
Â
In addition to its fundraising efforts, the DCA proudly operates the popular 50/50 drawings at Toledo football and men's and women's athletics home games. Proceeds from the drawings directly support Toledo Athletics while giving fans another exciting way to participate on game day.
Â
The organization has evolved over the decades while maintaining the traditions that have defined it since its founding. After meeting for more than 70 years at the Toledo Club in downtown Toledo—the origin of its name—the DCA moved its weekly luncheons to Savage Arena in 2009, making it even easier for coaches, student-athletes and members to gather on campus.
Â
Membership in the Downtown Coaches Association is open to anyone who wants to support Toledo Athletics while enjoying unparalleled access to Rocket coaches and student-athletes throughout the athletic season.
