TOLEDO, Ohio – The 1923 Society has grown into one of the University of Toledo athletics department's strongest philanthropic initiatives, generating more than $15 million in current commitments from 200-plus members who are investing in the future of Rocket student-athletes.
Â
The 1923 Society includes alumni and friends who make a minimum commitment of $25,000 over five years to advance Toledo Athletics. The organization has become a growing community of Rocket supporters united by a shared commitment to providing championship-level resources for current and future student-athletes while helping position Toledo Athletics for continued success.
Â
"The remarkable growth of the 1923 Society reflects the belief our alumni and supporters have in the future of Toledo Athletics," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom Moreland. "Every commitment made through the 1923 Society is an investment in our student-athletes and in our pursuit of championships. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our members and the confidence they have placed in our vision. Their leadership is creating opportunities that will benefit Rockets for generations to come."
Â
The 1923 Society's membership continues to expand both geographically and across generations of Rocket alumni. Members represent 11 states—Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New York, Tennessee, Indiana and New Mexico—and include 20 former student-athletes from nine different sports (baseball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's golf, field hockey, volleyball, women's track & field and men's tennis).
Â
Perhaps most encouraging is the 1923 Society's ability to inspire new philanthropy. More than half of its members made their first major gift to the University and Toledo Athletics through the 1923 Society. Those figures underscore the 1923 Society's role in welcoming a new generation of leadership donors who are helping shape the future of Rocket Athletics.
Â
"The growth of the 1923 Society is a testament to the passion and commitment of Rocket alumni and friends who believe in the transformational power of Toledo Athletics," said Richard Day, Senior Associate Vice President of Development and Campaign Director. "These members are not only providing critical resources for today's student-athletes, they are helping build a foundation for future generations of Rockets to achieve excellence in competition, academics and life. We are deeply grateful for their leadership and invite others to join this remarkable community of supporters."
Â
As college athletics continues to evolve, philanthropic support has never been more important in providing Rocket student-athletes with the resources they need to compete for championships while excelling in the classroom and serving the community. Every new member strengthens Toledo's ability to recruit, develop and support outstanding student-athletes and helps ensure the Rockets remain competitive on the national stage.
Â
The momentum behind the 1923 Society continues to grow, but the opportunity is even greater. Alumni and friends who believe in the future of Toledo Athletics are invited to join fellow Rockets in making a lasting impact on the lives of student-athletes and the continued success of the University.
Â
Membership in the 1923 Society begins with a commitment of $25,000, payable over five years, with gifts directed toward the area of Toledo Athletics that matters most to each donor.
