TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo has announced that Senior Associate Athletic Director of Compliance and Integrity Brian Lutz has been named Interim Vice President and Director of Athletics while a national search is conducted to replace Bryan B. Blair, who recently accepted the director of athletics position at Syracuse. Blair's final day at Toledo is this Friday, April 10.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Lutz, senior associate athletic director of compliance and integrity, to lead The University of Toledo's intercollegiate athletic program as interim vice president and director of athletics, effective April 11," said UToledo President James Holloway. "Brian continues his long history of service to our university, and I am looking forward to working with him during this interim period. We are engaged in a national search for our next athletics director, and I expect this search will conclude in a timely fashion."
Lutz has served in his current role since 2018 where he is responsible for managing the department's compliance to NCAA, Mid-American Conference and institutional rules and guidelines. He also serves as sport administrator for women's soccer, women's track and field, women's cross country and men's cross country.
Lutz has served the Rockets in the compliance office since 2003 when he came to Toledo from Kansas State University. He began his athletics compliance career at West Virginia University. He has a master's degree in sport management from West Virginia University and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Duquesne University.
"I am honored and humbled to have been entrusted by Dr. Holloway with the responsibility of leading our department during this interim period," said Lutz. "Having spent 23 years of my life as a Toledo Rocket, I step into this role with a deep sense of commitment to our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and the entire community. Over this time, our focus will remain exactly where it belongs: supporting our teams, strengthening our programs, and upholding the values that define this department."Â Â Â
