Sophomore OL is a semifinalist for college football’s premier community service award
TOLEDO, Ohio – Rocket fans have an opportunity to help University of Toledo sophomore offensive lineman Matt Hofer earn college football's highest community service honor by voting for him for the 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
Fans can vote for Hofer at ESPN.com/Allstate through Nov. 3. The award recognizes the Football Bowl Subdivision student-athlete who best combines exemplary community service with leadership and performance on and off the field.
Hofer is one of 11 semifinalists and is seeking to become the first Toledo player to win the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. He was a finalist for the award in 2025, becoming the first Rocket to reach the finalist stage.
A native of Valparaiso, Ind., Hofer has accumulated more than 300 verified hours of community service during his Toledo career. His volunteer work has included preparing and serving meals at Cherry Street Mission, working with Connecting Kids to Meals, volunteering with The Ability Center and Boys & Girls Club, visiting local elementary schools, participating in youth football camps and supporting numerous Toledo Athletics community outreach initiatives.
Hofer's commitment to serving others extends beyond his work with the Rockets. In June, he received his ministry license at Hope Community Church of the Nazarene in Oregon, Ohio, earning the title of Reverend. His dedication to helping others reflects the values at the heart of the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, which honors student-athletes who make a meaningful difference in their communities.
On the field, Hofer has established himself as a key member of Toledo's offensive line, starting at right tackle in every game. The Rockets rank in the top 30 nationally in scoring offense (36.3 points per game), passing offense (273.4 yards per game) and total offense (458.4 yards per game), and they are first in the Mid-American Conference in yards per carry (5.08 yards per game). Hofer is part of an offensive line that is top-5 in the country with just three sacks allowed through Week 7.
In 2025, he helped the Rockets lead the MAC in scoring offense (30.8 points), total offense (415.2 yards) and passing offense (238.1 yards). He also earned Academic All-MAC honors.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy recipient will be announced on Dec. 11 during The Home Depot College Football Awards, and will serve as captain of the 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Fans can make their voices heard and support Matt Hofer by voting at ESPN.com/Allstate before Nov. 3.
