TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo men's basketball freshman Leroy Blyden Jr. has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Blyden possesses a 3.773 grade-point average and tallied 20.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 4.5 apg, and 1.0 spg to go along with a 4.5 assist/turnover ratio in two games last week. He opened the week with an efficient 22-point, five-rebound, and four-assist outing at UMass as he hit 7-of-10 field-goal attempts, 2-of-3 three-point shots, and all six of his free-throw attempts.
Blyden then scored 19 points, dished out five assists, and grabbed four rebounds and hit a game-winning three-pointer with 7.7 seconds left in the Rockets' 73-72 win over arch-rival Bowling Green.

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award is given to one male and one female student-athlete from its conference institutions who has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and has a worthy performance during that week's competition.Â

Blyden and the Rockets return to Savage Arena on Saturday, Jan. 31 to face Ball State. Tipoff is at 12:00 p.m.
