Rockets Drop Season Opener to Eastern Kentucky, 3-1

Toledo outshoots Colonels 18-11, but EKU converts on scoring opportunities

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Toledo women's soccer team was on the attack for much of the afternoon, but fell to Eastern Kentucky in the 2025 season opener, 3-1 at the Lexington Sporting Club on Thursday.
 
The Rockets outshot the Colonels 18-11, including 9-2 in the first half, and held all four corners, but EKU capitalized on its opportunities with goals in the 25th, 52nd and 80th minutes. EKU goalkeeper Jordan Levasseur came up with 11 saves on the afternoon.

  • 7' | In a stretch of early Rocket opportunities, Keira Billis' shot nicked the post, before Morgan Spitler's left-footed attempt from the middle was saved by the goalkeeper
  • 25' | Ella Grode finished on a through ball from Maddie Murphy at the top of the box to put the Colonels up 1-0.
  • 52' | Murphy received a through pass up the middle and connected for a 2-0 Colonels' lead.
  • 69' | Off of a corner kick, Toledo kept the play alive and Keeley Clinton connected on a left-footer at the top of the box to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • 80' | Grode took advantage of a breakaway for her second of the day to push EKU back ahead, 3-1.

The Rockets head to Cincinnati on Sunday, Aug. 17 for a matchup with the Bearcats. The match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
