COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior
Laura Nicholson broke the 800m school record as the Toledo women's track and field program closed out competition at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic on Saturday.
Eight Rockets competed in the 800m event and all placed in the Top 25. Nicholson led the way, crossing the finish line at 2:04.80 to win the event and set a new program record time.
Karina James followed right behind her, placing third with a final mark of 2:09.95 and recording the seventh-best time in the 800m in UT history.
Alex Bauer and
Lianna Surtz rounded out the Rockets' top-10 finishers, taking seventh (2:12.59) and ninth (2:13.36), respectively.
Bailey Ranta and
Lauren Zanotelli both recorded personal best times in the 800m.
Freshman
Hailey Slagle took sixth in the 100m dash, recording a final time of 12.88.
Chloe Pyles and
Sydney Caddell recorded top-20 finishes in their respective events. Pyles placed 16
th in the triple jump (10.37m), while Caddell took 19
th in the long jump (5.03m).
UP NEXT
Toledo will head to the Ohio University Invitational in Athens, Ohio on Friday, May 9.
