Jamie Butler ties for 23rd place after firing career-low three-under par 68

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior CJ van Wyk notched his second-straight top-10 finish and senior Jamie Butler fired a career-low three-under par 68 on Sunday to lead the Toledo men's golf team at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational. The Rockets finished ninth in the team standings with a two-over par 854 at the par-71, 7,275-yard Ackerman-Allen course.

Van Wyk carded a one-over par 72 today and finished with a three-under par 210. He tied for the team lead with junior Mads Jensen in the tournament with 12 birdies.

Butler tied for 23rd place with an even-par 213. After playing his first 11 holes at one-over par, Butler eagled the par-five, 605-yard No. 2 hole and played the remainder of his round at two-under par.

No. 50 Marquette won the tournament title with a 16-under par 836, two shots in front of the host No. 37-ranked Boilermakers and six ahead of No. 11 Illinois and Michigan State. Michigan's Hunter Thomson edged the Spartans' Caleb Bond for medalist honors with a 10-under par 203.

In the individual tournament at Purdue's par-72, 7,465-yard Kampen Golf Course, sophomore Marijn Hoogeveen tied for 10th place at 10-over par 226 (78-72-76) and junior Bence Kotel tied for 24th place at 15-over par 231 (78-73-80).

The Rockets will next head to Grove City, Ohio to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships on Sunday-Tuesday, April 27-29.
