Grand Rapids, Mich. native averaged 11.2 ppg with a 38.0 3PTFG% at CMU last year
TOLEDO, Ohio – Head coach Tod Kowalczyk announced Wednesday that 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard Kyler Vanderjagt (Grand Rapids, Mich.) will transfer to the University of Toledo to join the Rockets' men's basketball program next season. Vanderjagt has one year of eligibility remaining after playing last season at Central Michigan and two years at Belmont (2022-24).
"We've had so much success with transfers that we recruited out of high school and Kyler is someone we recruited extremely hard three years ago before losing out to Belmont," Kowalczyk said. "I think the world of Kyler and his family. We've kept tabs on him and made a mistake not taking him last year in the transfer portal. Kyler is a high-character guy who is very skilled and that's who we're looking for in the portal."
Vanderjagt saw action in all 31 games for the Chippewas last year and was named the Mid-American Conference's Sixth Man of the Year by HoopsHD.com. He averaged 11.2 ppg and started seven contests for CMU, posting a 38.0 three-point FG% (41-of-108) and 79.8 FT%. He scored in double figures on 17 occasions, including a career-high 25-point outing (8-of-10 FG, 6-of-7 3FG) vs. Bowling Green (Feb. 1). He also poured in 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting at Akron (Jan. 10) and tallied 19 points (6-10 FG, 3-4 3FG) and five assists at Marquette (Nov. 11).
A 2022 graduate of Northview High School in Grand Rapids, Vanderjagt finished as the runner-up for Michigan's Mr. Basketball award in 2022 and was a two-time first-team all-state honoree. He averaged 24.1 ppg and 7.0 rpg as a senior to help the Wildcats to a state semifinal appearance.
