Toledo Drops 6-1 Decision to USF

Catherine Rhegness grabs singles win on No. 6 court

TAMPA, Fla. – Freshman Catherine Rhegness registered her third singles match win against USF, but it wasn't enough as Toledo fell to the Bulls on Friday afternoon, 6-1, in Tampa, Fla.

USF (3-9) took the doubles point after claiming 6-1 wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts.

In singles play, the Bulls took a 3-0 lead after straight-set victories over Audrey Moutama and Gaby Rondon on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, respectively. Jone Ibanez fell in a three-set match on the No. 3 court as USF clinched the match victory.

Annika Munson, Rhegness and Ibanez each took their opponents to a three-set match. Rhegness grabbed a three-set victory, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, over Karine Kulidjian on the No. 6 singles court. The Ottawa Hills, Ohio native is now 3-0 in singles matches during her first year as a Rocket.

"This match was a lot closer than the score indicated. I'm so proud of the battle today. For the first match outdoors, to push USF to four three-setters was a big deal. We got better today, which is our goal. We need to get some rest and get ready to compete against another good outdoor team tomorrow morning."

Toledo will take on Hillsborough Community College on Saturday, March 8 in Tampa, Fla. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
