Leah Evans earns top-10 finish in postseason competition
OCALA, Fla. – The Toledo women's swimming and diving team concluded postseason competition at the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) National Invitational Championship on Saturday evening in Ocala, Fla.
"I'm so proud of this group that competed at NICs," said Head Coach Jacy Dyer. "They raced hard and they really enjoyed racing. They created a positive and supportive environment for each other. I'm very grateful to finish up this season with them. Our main goals this year were to score more points or place higher than we have the previous year. At NICs this year, we did both of those things. I couldn't have asked for a better way to finish this season."
Sophomore Leah Evans tallied two 10th-place finishes, earning one in the 50 butterfly with a time of 24.54 and one in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 55.47. Evans also placed 19th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.21.
Junior Janne Slegers recorded a 19th-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a final time of 1:51.19. Freshman Rosie Richards competed in distance freestyle events, taking 33rd in the 1650 freestyle (17:22.23) and 35th in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.96).
Richards, Paula Pavillard Salvador, Kenzie Myco and Slegers placed 23rd in the 800 freestyle relay, recording a time of 7:34.56. In the 400 freestyle relay, Richards, Evans, Myco and Audrey Zimmerman combined for a final time of 3:30.08 en route to a 31st-place showing.
All six competing Rockets competed in time trial events during the weekend. Toledo scored 58 points to take 36th overall. Akron won the National Invitational Championships, totaling 650 points.
