Fort Wayne native will join Rockets for 2026-27 season
TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo Head Coach Ginny Boggess announced the signing of guard Gabby Helsom to her National Letter of Intent on Thursday.
Helsom has starred at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. and is beginning her senior season. She will enroll at Toledo as a communications major and begin competition during the 2026-27 season.
"We're thrilled to welcome sharpshooter Gabby Helsom to the Toledo women's basketball family," said Boggess. "She embodies everything we value -- toughness, IQ, skill, and a team-first mindset. Gabby has a high motor, relentless work ethic, and contagious competitiveness. I couldn't be more happy to welcome her and the entire Helsom family to Team Toledo."
The 5-11 guard has been a scoring presence throughout high school, with over 1,000 points, averaging 19 point per game on 56% shooting through her first three seasons, including an impressive 47% from beyond the arc.
Helsom also brings championship accolades and awards to Toledo. She's a three-time sectional champion and one-time regional champion in Indiana. She has won the Tiffany Gooden Award, given to the best player in the Summit Athletic Conference (SAC). She has also been selected First-Team All-SAC twice and to the Indiana Junior All-Star team.
In travel basketball, Helsom competes for Always 100 in Northeast Indiana, earned Adidas All-American for 3ssb Circuit and was selected for the Adidas All-American Camp over the summer.
