Nine Rockets score in double digits with Jaylan Ouwinga tallying team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds
FINDLAY, Ohio – Nine Rockets scored in double figures to lead the Toledo men's basketball team to a 123-103 exhibition victory at the University of Findlay on Sunday afternoon.
"We played really hard with great energy and shared the ball against a really good pressing team," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Findlay forces a lot of turnovers, and we did a good job of taking care of the ball. It was a great atmosphere to play in today and we learned a lot. A game like this will help us in our road games early in the season."
Sophomore Jaylan Ouwinga topped Toledo with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Kyler Vanderjagt and junior Sonny Wilson also scored 15 points each of the Rockets.
Toledo shot 63.0% from the field and was 12-of-24 (50.0%) from three-point range. Findlay registered a 47.7 FG% and shot 28.6% (12-of-42) from behind the arc.
Toledo held a 62-40 halftime advantage and led by as many as 25 points in the first half with 11 Rockets finding the scoring column. Vanderjagt and Wilson paced UT offensively in the opening 20 minutes with 11 points apiece.
The Rockets shot 67.7% from the field in the opening 20 minutes and limited the Oilers to a 37.5 shooting mark.
Toledo opens its season on Monday, Nov. 3 against South Alabama in Savage Arena in the third-annual MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m.
