TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team saw its first fall action of the 2024-25 season in its annual Everybody vs. Cancer Rocket Invite. Five Rockets combined in singles and doubles play for a 25-7 record, led by sophomore Poonthong Komolpisut (7-1 overall record) and junior Joshua Mackey (6-1). Mackey picked up his first win on the court as a Rocket.
"Overall, this was quite a competitive tournament, and our level was pretty strong," said head coach Al Wermer. "Our team had a lot of bright spots but certainly we have some things to improve on."
Komolpisut and Mackey paired up for doubles competition and won the Doubles A draw, going 3-0 against the competition. The duo took down Rohan Bhat/ Derek Shiffer from Case Western Reserve and Saul Berdullas/Sam Klein from Northern Illinois on their way to the championship. Both Komolpisut and Mackey finished the weekend going 3-1 in singles play.
Sophomores Cole Cozens and Charlie Snow teamed up in doubles play, recording an 2-1 record. Cozens also went 3-1 in singles play, earning wins over CWRU's Rohan Bhat and Rowan Matorin to conclude the weekend with a 6-2 overall record.
Senior Hanamichi Carvajal tallied an overall record of 3-1 in singles, defeating Mihailo Savic and Simon Knezevic from UIC and NIU's Chao Bu Suo Nan before falling to UIC's Artem Alekseychuk.
