Senior defensive lineman also awarded two major MAC preseason honors

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo senior defensive tackle Darius Alexander was selected as a Third Team Preseason All-American, adding to seven major conference honors and 12 Rocket All-MAC selections among College Football Network's preseason team and individual honors announced on Monday.

In addition to his All-America pick, Alexander also took two of the seven major preseason MAC awards. He was named the conference's Defensive Lineman of the Year and Defensive Tackle of the Year, senior Jerjuan Newton was named the Wide Receiver of the Year, senior Maxen Hook was selected as the Safety of the Year, senior Jacquez Stuart as the Kick Returner of the Year and Tashi Braceful as the Impact Freshman of the Year. Toledo was also awarded the overall MAC Secondary of the Year.

Toledo is coming off an 11-3 season last year, which included a second-straight MAC Championship Game appearance and a trip to the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl. The Rockets open up the 2024 season with the 'Biggest Party in Toledo' at the Glass Bowl on Thursday, Aug. 29. Kickoff for the season opener is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
