Maxen Hook was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award 2024 preseason watch list on Monday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top defensive player.

This is the third preseason watch list for Hook. He was also named to the watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (top defender) and Jim Thorpe Award (top defensive back).
Hook is a three-time All-MAC selection, earning first-team all-league honors in 2022 and 2023. Last year he totaled 69 tackles including 37 solo stops, despite missing five games last year due to injury. He also produced four pass breakups, a team-high three interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced Nov. 12, 2024, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled Nov. 26, 2024. The winners of the 30
th Chuck Bednarik Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12, 2024. The formal presentations of the Chuck Bednarik Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on Friday March 14, 2025 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.Â
Toledo opens its season on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. vs. Duquesne in "The Biggest Party in Toledo."
