TOLEDO, Ohio – Head Coach Ginny Boggess announced the addition of Takima Keane to the Toledo women's basketball program as an assistant coach on Monday.
Â
Keane brings many years of collegiate coaching experience to Toledo, which will be her fifth Division I stop. Keane comes from the University of Rhode Island, where she helped the Rams to back-to-back 20-win seasons and a WNIT third-round appearance in her two seasons in the Ocean State.
Â
"Takima was an integral piece of our staff blueprint since day one, and we are so happy to have her join us," said Boggess. "Coach Keane brings championship-level success and the ability to develop players at multiple positions with her from the A-10. A natural connector, she fosters deep relationships in recruiting and thrives as a mentor. Please give a big TOL welcome to Takima!"
Â
URI posted a 26-7 record and a 14-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play in 2022-23 to clinch a share of the regular=season title for the first time ever. The Rams then won twice in the 2023 WNIT to advance to the Super 16. Rhode Island then secured another 20-win season in 2023-24 with a 21-14 (10-8 A-10) record and pulled off three victories to reach the conference tournament final.
Â
Keane helped coach Mayé Touré to an Atlantic 10 Most Improved Player honor in 2022-23, along with a first-team pick that season followed by a second-team selection in 2023-24. She also led URI players to Atlantic 10 Third-Team and Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team selections while on the Rams' staff.
Â
Prior to Rhode Island, Keane spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Binghamton out of the America East. She has also had stops at Canisius (2017-18) and Northern Illinois (2015-17). She was involved in all aspects of each program, including recruiting, player development and scouting. Â Keane also coached at the prep level as the head coach at RISE Academy Prep School in Toronto in 2018-19.
Â
The Ajax, Ont. native graduated from Cleveland State in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and played four seasons with the Vikings. She was part of CSU's Horizon League championship team in the 2009-10 season. She later earned her master's degree in sport management from Illinois in 2015.
Â
Outside of coaching, Keane has served as a women's outreach and community relations specialist with the Long Live Hoop Women's Youth Program since 2011.
Â
"I am so grateful to join Coach Boggess and the Toledo family," said Keane. Having witnessed its rich tradition up-close as a player and a coach, I am excited to be a part of such a special program! Not only do I believe in Coach B's vision with her proven success, but I am happy to join a staff which is dedicated to the betterment of our student-athletes on and off the court."
