Rockets Defeated by Bowling Green to Finish Road Trip

Walks and errors hurt Toledo in Tuesday loss at BG

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team suffered a 17-9 defeat to Bowling Green in the first round of the Battle of I-75 this season at Steller Field on Tuesday. The contest was treated as a non-conference game and did not count toward the Mid-American Conference standings.

The Rockets (20-25, 13-11 MAC) took an early 4-0 lead, but the Falcons (24-14, 18-3 MAC) used multiple big innings to take the lead and ultimately pull away. BGSU capitalized on 11 walks, two hit batsmen and four Toledo errors.

Toledo received two hits each from senior Owen Jackson, junior Caden Konczak and freshman JP Wagner. Jackson led the Rockets with three RBIs while Wagner added two and four others added one. Freshman Brandon Lucek scored two runs and seven others crossed the plate once.

Jackson's first-inning home run was his 14th of the season and 30th in his two-season Toledo career.

Toledo used 10 different pitchers on Tuesday. Sophomore RJ Shunck (1-4) started and took the decision, allowing five earned runs in 1+ innings pitched.

The Rockets will return to Scott Park May 3-5 for a series against Eastern Michigan, its final home weekend series of the season. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 3:00 p.m. while Saturday and Sunday are set for 1:00. All three games will air on BCSN and ESPN+.
