TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team was unable to overcome a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th inning, falling to Miami 4-3 at Scott Park Saturday afternoon.
Â
Toledo (19-20, 12-8 MAC) had its streak of four straight MAC series wins snapped, while Miami (17-19, 10-10 MAC) evened its conference record.
Â
"Today was another really tough one-run loss," said Head Coach
Rob Reinstetle. "We battled hard and had some chances early to extend our lead but couldn't, as our offense has struggled this weekend. A bright spot today was Cam Szynski. He held the Miami offense down and his great effort gave us a chance to tie and win the game late. We're facing some adversity for the first time this season after being in the driver's seat numerous weekends."
Â
The Rockets got two hits and an RBI each from juniors
Garret Pike and
Luke Walton, with Walton hitting his 10th home run this season. Pike, senior
Scott Mackiewicz and freshman
Charlie Scholvin each scored a run on Saturday.
Â
Senior
Noah Johnson started and delivered 4.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out seven. Senior
Camryn Szynski (0-2) recorded his longest outing of the season, going 5.0 innings and giving up just one run on two hits, striking out five batters. Szynski has logged 18.2 innings across his last seven appearances dating back to March 23, giving up just four earned runs and seven hits in that span.
Â
UT will look to avoid the sweep on Sunday, April 21, with first pitch at Scott Park set for 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
Â
"We need to win tomorrow and salvage a game this series," Reinstetle said. "We can't look ahead, tomorrow is all that matters."
