Toledo to Host Michigan at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday Night

First pitch between Rockets and Wolverines set for 6:00 p.m.

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team will head to downtown Toledo to host the University of Michigan on Tuesday, April 16. First pitch for the contest vs. Wolverines is 6:00 p.m. with the game being televised locally on the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) and streamed on ESPN+. Tickets for the game are $10.00.
 
The Rockets (19-17, 12-6 MAC) won their fifth of six Mid-American Conference series this season by winning two out of three games vs. fifth-place Kent State this past weekend.
 
The Wolverines (17-20, 8-4 Big Ten) captured their weekend series, as well, by winning two of three at home against Minnesota.
 
Toledo sits third in the league standings behind Bowling Green (19-11, 15-0 MAC) and Western Michigan (19-13, 11-4 MAC). The Rockets are two games in front of fourth-place Ball State (23-13, 10-8) and two-and-a-half games ahead of the Golden Flashes (16-17, 8-7 MAC) and Eastern Michigan (13-21, 8-7 MAC).
 
TOLEDO'S MAC HITTING LEADERS
  • Toledo leads the MAC in home runs in overall games (66) and conference contests (50). The Rockets are hitting .304 as a team in league play.
  • Luke Walton leads the MAC with a 1.174 OPS. He also ranks second with a .716 slugging percentage and his 12 doubles are tied for second.
  • Garret Pike ranks second with 14 home runs, tied for third with 38 runs scored and 38 RBIs, and fifth in hits (51) and slugging percentage (.683).
  • Four Rockets rank in the MAC's Top 10 in home runs – Pike (14/2nd), Owen Jackson (11/T-5th), Scott Mackiewicz (9/T-8th) and Walton (9/T-8th).
TOLEDO'S MAC PITCHING LEADERS
  • The Rockets hold the best opposing batting average, with opposing hitters batting just .275.
  • Grant Umberger leads MAC starters with a 3.00 ERA. He is 5-2 in nine starts in 2024, tied for the most wins in the league.
  • Umberger also ranks second in opponent batting average (.200) and is ninth with 46 strikeouts.
  • Jacob Tabor is tied for first in the MAC with five saves, with Camryn Szynski tied for third with three.
ROCKET NOTES
  • Toledo has won five of its six conference series this season, including four in a row.
  • The Rockets' lone sweep this season was at Akron to open conference play.
  • Walton took over the team lead in batting average at .362 by hitting .611 (11-for-18) in four games last week. He also scored nine runs and had a .650 on-base percentage.
  • White registered the second multi-homer game of his career with two homers vs. the Golden Flashes on Sunday. He leads the Rockets with six three-hit games is currently on a team-high 14-game hitting streak, batting .466 (27-for-58) and slugging nine extra-base hits in that span.
  • Pike has 17 RBIs in his last nine conference games and leads the team with 38 this year.
  • The Rockets are 9-2 in conference matchups when the pitching staff allows five or fewer runs.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
  • Michigan is 8-4 in the Big Ten and tied for third place with Purdue. Illinois is in first place with a 7-2 league mark, while Nebraska is in second at 6-3.
  • The Wolverines rank second nationally with 41 double plays, trailing only Purdue's national-best 42 two-baggers.
  • Sophomore Mitch Voit leads the Wolverines in RBIs (34), doubles (16), innings pitched (57) and strikeouts (38). 
  • Voit ranks first in the Big Ten and 10th nationally with 16 doubles. He is also third in the conference with 87 total bases. 
UP NEXT
The Rockets will host seventh-place Miami (14-19, 8-10 MAC) in a three-game series this weekend at Scott Park. Friday's opener is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m., with Saturday's and Sunday's contest set for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ with Friday's game shown locally on BCSN.
