Former Rocket cornerback runs a blazing 4.33 in the 40-yard dash, the second-fast time of the day
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Former Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell made a big impact at the 2024 NFL Combine in Indianapolis on Friday, running a 4.33 in his first attempt in the 40-yard dash. His 40 time was the second-fast of the day, trailing only Clemson's Nate Wiggins, who ran a 4.28.
Mitchell, who also ran a 4.38 in his second attempt, now has the fastest 40 time ever by a Rocket at the NFL Combine, eclipsing the 4.36 mark set by Tycen Anderson in 2022.
Mitchell earned a total score of 90, which ranked first among all cornerbacks at the Combine. He also had a vertical jump of 38" and a broad jump of 10-2. He had 20 reps on the bench press, the best of any cornerback at the Combine.
Mitchell, who is expected to be one of the top players selected in this year's NFL Draft, was named second-team All-America by four of the five major All-America teams in 2023. He was also an All-America choice in 2022, making him Toledo's second player ever to be named to a major All-America team in multiple years and the first since defensive lineman Mel Long, Sr. in 1970-71. He is the only Rocket to be named to all five major teams in a career. A two-time first-team All-MAC pick, Mitchell led the nation with 20 pass breakups in 2022 and was second nationally with 18 last season. He is the first Rocket ever to be named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's top defensive player.
Toledo has had nine players selected in the NFL Draft in the past seven years, and had 13 players on NFL rosters at the end of the 2023 season. The highest Rocket ever selected in the NFL Draft was defensive lineman Dan Williams, who was taken No. 11 over by Denver in the 1993 draft.
The 2024 NFL Draft will take place April 25-27 in Detroit's Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza.
