TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior guard Dante Maddox Jr. of the Toledo men's basketball team has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Maddox currently holds a 3.472 grade-point average as a media communication major.

A Chicago Heights, Ill. native, Maddox scored 21 points and dished out a career-high six assists in Toledo's 85-83 victory over Ohio last Friday.

Maddox committed just one turnover in 37 minutes and scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half to help the Rockets erase a 13-point deficit. With Toledo trailing 76-74 with 2:13 to play, Maddox knocked down a step-back jumper at the 1:45 mark to tie the score and then buried a three-point field goal with 48 seconds left for a 79-76 lead the Rockets did not relinquish.

Toledo (17-9) is currently tied for first place in the MAC with an 11-2 league record and will visit Bowling Green (16-10) in the second Battle of I-75 this season on Friday, Feb. 23.
