CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference named Toledo women's basketball guard/forward
Sammi Mikonowicz the league's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Mikonowicz produced a stellar performance at the Navy Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend, averaging 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds across two games against Navy and Maryland. Against Navy, she set a career high with 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her 17th career double-double, which led the Rockets to a 58-51 victory over the previously undefeated Midshipmen.

Following the tournament, Mikonowicz was named to the Navy Classic All-Tournament Team.

The fifth-year senior is majoring in Early Childhood Education and holds a 4.0 GPA. She is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree and has earned three Academic All-MAC selections.

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and has a worthy performance during that week's competition. Schools can nominate one male and one female athlete for each week. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

Mikonowicz and the Rockets return to the court on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m. to take on Mercyhurst.
