12/4/2024 1:46:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo Head Football Coach Jason Candle announced the addition of 18 signees to the program on the first day of the early signing period on Wednesday.

Toledo's recruiting class is ranked No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference by both 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports lists all of Toledo's signees as three-star recruits. One signee, wide receiver Kamren Flowers from West Bloomfield (Mich.) High School, is listed as a four-star recruit by ESPN.

Toledo has had the No. 1 recruiting class in the MAC in each of the past two seasons and seven times since Candle assumed the reins as the Rockets' head coach in December of 2015.

"I'm very happy with the class we've signed who have made a commitment to be part of our football program," said Candle, who is in his ninth season as Toledo's head coach. "A lot of things go into that. I'm really happy for (Recruiting Coordinator) Bryan Gasser and everybody who works in the recruiting department. They do a really good job of identifying prospects that we feel fit the fabric of the culture of who we are. Then it's up to our assistant coaches to go out and recruit, get them committed and get them signed. That's a long, extensive process. I think our coaching staff did a really good job."

Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period for high school football players. Student-athletes have until Friday to sign NLIs during the early signing period. The regular signing period will begin on National Signing Day on Feb. 5, 2025.

The Rockets stayed close to home for a significant portion of their class, bringing in 13 players from Ohio and Michigan. UT also added two players from Pennsylvania, and one each from Illinois, Texas and Florida.

"It's a class of really good, high-character people that understand the value of a free education," added Candle. "This class has a GPA of just under a 3.5. They are smart, good, intelligent football people that have high character and that we feel are really good players."
