Five Rockets score 15 points or more in double-digit win
HUNTINGTON, W. Va – Five Rockets scored 15 or more points to lift the Toledo men's basketball team to a wire-to-wire 90-80 road victory at Marshall on Saturday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center.
"I'm proud of our effort today. We beat a good team on the road in a tough place to play," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Our energy on the defensive end in the first half got us into transition, and our offensive balance and shot distribution were tremendous. We also rebounded the ball well against a team that has two very good post players."
Fifth-year senior Isaiah Adams and sophomore Sam Lewis topped Toledo (1-1) with 17 points. Sophomores Javan Simmons and Sonny Wilson each contributed 16 points apiece, with junior Seth Hubbard chipping in 15 points off the bench.
Adams led the Rockets with seven rebounds, while Simmons dished out a team-high three assists.
Toledo was efficient offensively, shooting 52.5% from the field and committing just nine turnovers. The Rockets also knocked down 24-of-32 free-throw attempts and held a 39-36 rebounding advantage.
Marshall (1-1) shot just 40.3% from the field and 28.1% (9-of-32) from behind the three-point arc. Senior Nate Martin registered a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Thundering Herd.
